China started operating country's second and world's third biggest hydroelectric power plant. China, world's biggest energy consumer, established Xiluodu power plant which will produce 770,000 kilowatt electricity in a signle unit. to the China Southern Power Grid. With a total generating capacity of 13.86 gigawatts, the station is the world's third-largest after the Three Gorges and Itaipu hydroelectric projects. The construction of the plant started over a river in Yunnan and Sichuan provinces in 2005, is expected to be fully completed in 2015 with 18 power generating units.
